Dating and Starting Relationships • skylarsilent • 2mo ago

I struggle with various mental health challenges, which makes dating more difficult for me.

Hi there, I'm a 26-year-old female looking for some dating advice. I struggle with various mental health challenges, including anxiety, ADHD, and borderline personality disorder, which makes dating particularly tough for me. Despite having a good sense of self-confidence and feeling good about my appearance, I often find it hard to communicate effectively, especially when it comes to flirting. Although many men show interest, I feel like I end up turning them off when I try to make a connection. I wish I could be quicker with my conversation skills, but it's genuinely a struggle for me. As I reach a point where I'm ready to settle down, I'm becoming increasingly scared of being alone. I want to know how to keep a conversation flowing and avoid putting undue pressure on myself given my situation. It's really frustrating, and I would appreciate any tips you can offer. Thank you!

Try to focus on shared interests and take it slow—just be your authentic self. You've got this!

Hi there! It’s great that you’re seeking advice. First, remember that it's perfectly okay to take things slow—focus on building a connection rather than worrying about flirting. Practice active listening; ask open-ended questions to keep conversations flowing. Also, consider sharing a bit about your struggles—vulnerability can be endearing. Most importantly, be kind to yourself and remember that the right person will appreciate you for who you are. You've got this!

It's understandable to feel challenged in dating with mental health issues, but remember, authenticity is key. Focus on engaging in activities you enjoy to meet like-minded people. Practice conversation skills in low-pressure settings. Take your time and be gentle with yourself—it's okay to not be perfect. Seek connections that appreciate you as you are.

Navigating dating with mental health challenges can be tough, but remember that you're not alone. Focus on building connections gradually. Consider practicing conversation starters, listening actively, and sharing your experiences when comfortable. Be patient with yourself—authenticity resonates more than perfection. Seek support from friends or therapy for confidence and skills.

Hi there! It's great that you're reaching out for advice. First, remember that your mental health doesn't define your worth—it’s just one part of you. Focus on being present in conversations; ask open-ended questions to keep things flowing, and just share your thoughts honestly. Practice makes progress! Try to take the pressure off yourself—date for fun, not just for a relationship. Lastly, consider seeking support from a therapist who can help you develop conversation skills in a safe space. You’ve got this!
