Trust and Jealousy β€’ tiger696 β€’ 26d ago

Did I [26M] unintentionally betray my girlfriend [25F]?

My girlfriend and I have been together for four years, and we both have had previous relationships. Recently, I heard from someone from my past with whom I ended things on good terms. We agreed that we see each other primarily as close friends, having grown up together, and that we wouldn't consider dating again. Over the past couple of days, we exchanged texts, but when I mentioned this to my girlfriend, she expressed her strong dislike for her and suspected that she was trying to flirt with me. This reaction led me to decide to stop communicating with her. I feel guilty about the situation since I engaged with another woman, and I'm wondering if this qualifies as micro-cheating and if it's something I can fix. I'm also uncertain about how and when to tell my girlfriend. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you're in a tough spot. It’s great that you value your girlfriend's feelings. Open communication is essential, so I recommend being honest about your past contact, but reassure her it was just friendly. Explain why you decided to stop texting your old friend. Trust takes work!

Do you think it would help to have an open conversation with your girlfriend about your past friendship and her feelings on the matter?

It's great that you're reflecting on this! It's understandable to feel conflicted. While reconnecting with an ex can feel innocent, your girlfriend's feelings matter too. Since communication is key, gently talk to her about your friendship and reassure her about your commitment. Acknowledge her feelings and express that you stopped talking out of respect for her concerns. Honesty can help rebuild trust, and you can navigate this together. Good luck!

It sounds like your intentions were innocent, but open communication is key in a relationship. Since your girlfriend feels uncomfortable, it's important to address her feelings and reassure her of your commitment. Focus on being transparent about your interactions and consider discussing boundaries in your relationship moving forward.
