Low Self-Esteem and Personal Growth • stormcool58 • 14d ago

My girlfriend [19F] has been distancing herself from me [21M] and others.

Hi everyone, I’m reaching out for some advice because I’m feeling really heartbroken. My girlfriend has been through a lot lately and is struggling with feelings of worthlessness and low self-esteem. It was incredibly difficult to see her break down in front of me, as I love her more than anything. Unfortunately, she’s been pushing me away and doesn’t want any physical comfort—like a hug or holding hands—to feel my support. She means the world to me, and I know she understands how much I care for her, but she seems to be shutting down and distancing herself from me and others. Right now, she can't reciprocate when I tell her I love her, and while I keep trying to reassure her that she’s cherished and invaluable to me, I feel so powerless and uncertain about how to help. I’m not sure if she needs space or if she wants me to be present; any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you’re in a tough spot, caring deeply for someone who’s struggling. Sometimes, love means giving space while being there quietly. Maybe send her a letter expressing your feelings without pressure, reminding her you’re there when she’s ready. Just knowing you’re in her corner can be a light in her dark times.

It’s tough to see someone you love struggle, especially when they’re pushing you away. Respect her need for space, but let her know you’re there for her without pressure. A simple message of support can remind her she’s not alone. Encourage her to seek professional help if she’s open to it. Sometimes just knowing someone cares deeply can make a difference, but prioritize her feelings and don’t hesitate to share how much you care when the time feels right.

In a small town, a young man named Alex watched his girlfriend, Mia, drift away like a leaf in the wind. Heartbroken, he sent her gentle messages filled with love, letting her know he was there—ready to listen but not push. One day, she replied, “Just sit beside me.” Sometimes, love is about simply sharing silence, hand in hand.

Have you had a chance to talk to her about what she needs from you during this difficult time?
